Parent Night is a great opportunity for SBHS JSAers and their parents to get more actively involved with the South Brunswick JSA chapter. Throughout the night, we will be explaining what JSA is about more in-depth and the many revisions we have made from last year to this year. It is highly recommended that students and parents attend this event, as they have the opportunity to learn more about our chapter, and participate in a mock Gubernatorial election! Topics of Discussion: 1. What is JSA? 2. How can parents get involved? 3. SBHS JSA Committees
(Each presentation is 10 minutes. Parents will get the opportunity to attend all stations. Students have the option in attending stations, but there will be separate activities available to them.) 4. Gubernatorial Activities! (This is our first activism initiative for the year!) There will be a gubernatorial mock election and related activities for students, led by Priya Pamnani. Parents will also have the opportunity to participate in the mock election through a vote. Why you should be there... 1. Learn about JSA. 2. If you attend by yourself, you get a meeting credit. 3. If you attend with a parent you get two meeting credits. 4. If a parent attends alone, you get a meeting credit. 4. Fun JSA event! 5. Complementary coffee is provided. Food will also be sold. 6. Not only will be having our second meeting, but we will also be hosting Parent Night!
2nd meeting aka general meeting: This will be a meeting to prepare everyone in all things JSA in order to have a successful year. We will be having six stations in total, three of which students will attend on the 10th, and the other three which students will attend on the 24th. The stations include... 1. Debate Workshop Part 1: Chelsea Richardson and Princy Shah learn the styles of debate, rules of debate 2. Debate Workshop Part 2: Najum Junaid and Shruty Shrestha debating tips, resolution styles, etc. 3. Moderator Workshop: Hasin Tasneem learn how to moderate all styles of debate, also the different roles of a debate, and decorum 4. Thought talk: Suman Shastry for those enthused debaters, an entire station will be dedicated to a debate! 5. Activism: Amrita Mojumdar learn about the activism initiatives for the year 6. Gubernatorial Election: Sarika Pawar discuss this year's candidates for governor, and learn about our mock election taking place during Parent Night Each station is 15 minutes long, and each person will be attending 3 stations next meeting. The meeting ends at 4:00 pm. We will be selling snacks as usual, but we are also selling pizza for those who are interested. Read below for more details: What: Four blocks of debate, with time for lunch in Princeton in between. One of the two events hosted by the NJR and a great first JSA conference to attend! Where: McCosh Hall, Princeton University, Princeton, NJ When: October 19, 2013 from 9 am to 4:30 pm. *Unfortunately, this does conflict with the PSATS. However, if you take the test and then go, you can still catch the second half of the event! Who: Hosted by the New Jersey Region, open to everyone! Price: $5 (this is just for registration, you will need more money for lunch) Why you should be there... 1. Event caters to all levels of debate! This year, there are a large variety of debates in a wide range of difficulty. 2. Get to meet the JSA officials and new JSAers! 3. If you're testing for the PSATs, swing by for a fun end to your Saturday. 4. Have fun in Princeton during lunch block! 5. You will receive event credit (even if you show up after PSATs)! 6. We are fortunate enough to be really close to this conference. There are other people who will be traveling from all over New Jersey. Take advantage of this low cost and local event!
