As many of you may know, Rush Holt did not seek reelection this year, leaving a place for a new individual to be the Congress(wo)man in the 12th District of New Jersey.
Going into the Democratic primary, SBHSJSA worked heavily with our very own Andrew Zwicker's campaign. However, the win (with 46% of the votes) went to Assemblyman Bonnie Watson Coleman.
She is now against the Republican Primary winner, Alieta Eck and needs our help to ensure a Democrat takes the new seat. If you are interested in volunteering for her campaign, please comment below or contact me (Hasin Tasneem) as a list of names needs to be sent out to her campaign immediately.
We urge everyone to take a look at her campaign page at bonnieforcongress.com to learn about her candidacy especially if you want to volunteer for the campaign***. Did you know that if she wins she will be the first African American woman to serve in Congress from New Jersey?
SBHS JSA has had a strong history of being an extremely involved chapter in NJ politics and we hope to continue that legacy this year. Volunteering for a campaign is a great learning opportunity and opens doors to even more opportunities in the future.
***Please note that JSA is a nonpartisan organization, and we are not affiliated with or promoting any individual or party. Members of SBHS JSA are asked to always use their own beliefs to make decisions about their support.
